Eating Out
The nearest restaurant to Rouffiac is L'Auberge De La Tour in Sauzet. It is very good, very reasonably priced and therefore very popular! It is always advisable to book (just pop in on your way home and have a word with Michel). In season it is essential. Try the local speciality, ‘Salade Quercynoise’.
There are several excellent restaurants in Puy L’Eveque, for grander occasions.
The village café in St Matre, to the west, is open for lunch only and will serve you a very reasonably priced and quite splendid lunch. You will be sitting cheek by jowl with the locals too.
The Café de France in Montcuq comes highly recommended by the Gault Millau Guide.
Cahors has cafés and restaurants of every size and description, and we haven’t come across a bad one yet. Try the Bistro De Gambetta, on the square right in the centre, for lunch. And be there by noon if you want to be sure of a table. For dinner, our advice would be to park on the east of the Pont de Louis Philippe, by the riverside, and stroll round the old quarters – on the eastern side of Cahors. There are dozens of little restaurants there and even in the height of summer there will always be a table somewhere. We would particularly recommend Davona, if you happen to find it, but don’t worry if you don’t, they’re all good!
